Nudism - The New Lifestyle of Putting on Nothing
Over thousands of years, man has gone through a major revolution. Centuries ago, life was extremely different and clothes were not a part of day to day life. In fact, according to scientific studying, it shows that man first started wearing clothing about seventy two thousand years ago. This research was based on a study of body lice which came into existence around the time when man started wearing clothes. So for the two hundred thousand years that man has been in his present state he has enjoyed half his life without clothes.
The motivation to dress up came not from a fashion perspective but as a response to changing climatic conditions. In times past the weather was warmer and the body was hairy enough to stay warm without any help. As time passed, it became colder and man needed to cover up to keep warm. Today, there are people who just do not want to wear any clothes. These people are called nudists and they would rather stay without any clothes or as little as possible.
The Greek are known for their like to stay naked. The word nude comes from a Greek work which refers to a gym. There is a very deep connection between sporting activities and nakedness. In today’s generation, sports men are the ones who wear very little as they participate in different games. This is something that is totally accepted all over the world regardless of culture. In some cultures that are considered uncivilized people do not wear much and they are under pressure to cover up.
Today, in what are called nudist colonies, or nudist resorts, people are selectively removing most of all of their clothing. This has led to some myths about nudity, or naturalism, as it is sometime called. One such myth is that nudity is immoral. The reason is that it is seen as sexual in nature. It may be thought of as erotic or pornographic, but still sexual. In fact, nudist do not see themselves as either voyeurs- people who have a prurient interest in seeing naked bodies, or exhibitionists- people who have a prurient interest in being seen naked.
Actually, most nudists view it as a natural state and our purest form. They state we are born naked, so how can it be evil to be naked? They also extol the health benefits. The exposure to sunlight is good in that it leads to the production of vitamin D in the body. On the other hand, our increased knowledge of the causes of skin cancer has led sun block to be part of the nudist's equipment. Nudism is practiced in many forms today. Nudist beaches are quite popular as are nudist vacations on either public or private land.
New things are always view with an air of suspicion, especially when those new things have anything to do with nakedness. Nudism is a concept or a lifestyle yet to be accepted by the general public who cannot understand why anyone would want to be naked. However, it is clear that this new movement is here to stay and people need to take time to figure it out and accept it as part of life.
